All About Les Gets, France
Les Gets Ski Resort is a charming and authentic alpine village. Part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, the largest ski area in Europe, Les Gets is based at 1172m, high up in the French Alps. The traditional dairy farming village is a community that dates back to the 12th century. It is a mix of old Savoyard chalets and more modern wooden-and-stone buildings constructed in keeping with their beautiful alpine surroundings, with all the facilities you would expect of a modern French ski resort whilst still retaining the charm of an 800 year old alpine community. It has a relaxed atmosphere, warm and friendly, in keeping with it's traditional Alpine roots.
There are over 100 shops, bars and restaurants. The countless artisan shops offer all sorted of local craft and produce, giving a real savoyard feel to the village. There's a cinema (showing films in English each week), an ice rink and ten pin bowling alley.
Les Gets' nightlife has a warm and friendly atmosphere. I would describe it as a mid-sized ski resort. There are many good bars worth checking out, hosting live music and all the big sports matches are shown too. Most bars are open until 2am, and for those with energy still to burn there is the Igloo nightclub, which is open until 5am! If though you are looking for a loud party town then Les Gets might not be for you.

My favourite time of day in Les Gets...
...is probably early evening. The charms of the quaint streets, busy with people, is quietly magical, expecially in the snow. There's countless local artisan shops selling savoyard specialities, many small bars for a post-ski drink & always with a warm and friendly atmosphere.
We'd always recommend taking a walk around the village centre after a day skiing Les Gets. Sunday night offers free vin Chaud & Hot Chocolate with the Welcome to the Village meeting outside the Town hall, and the ice rink is a favourite with younger ones.
