Discovery of Food Long Weekend -
The Foodie's Perfect Getaway

Welcome to our gastronomic delight, new for the summer of 2011. We are just putting together the final details, but just to get the mouth watering please read on for an outline of what we have planned. More details will be released soon.

The Discovery of Food Long Weekend is the idea break for any food lover. An introduction to the local food and wine of the Haute-Savoie region of France, this long weekend in the Alps combines and exploration of great food and wine with a relaxing mountain break.

Your holiday is lead by Chef Raphael Cabuis. Born and bred in Les Gets, Raphael Cabuis trained in Thonon on the shores of Lake Geneva. He has worked in local restaurants in Les Gets, in Geneva and in the very prestigious restaurant Patrick Guilbaud in Dublin, a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars. Raphael will be with you throughout your holiday, on hand to guide you through the myriad of local produce and also to prepare many of your meals, a true culinary delight.

Here's a guide to your itinerary for your Discovery of Food Weekend

Summer Catered Chalets

Thursday - arriving into the Chalet for your Foodie Weekend

We are just 1 hr drive from Geneva airport, meaning you take the short flight from the UK to Geneva late afternoon and still be in Les Gets for your first evening meal. We include transfers and would be there to pick you up at the airport.

Raphael will be there in the chalet preparing your first gastronomic delight. A five course meal to start your weekend, with selected wines included to compliment your meal.

Lake Annecy in Summer, in the French Alps
Lake Annecy is famed as one of the
most beautiful places to visit in the French Alps in Summer

Friday - Lake Annecy Produce Market

Lake Annecy is one of the most beautiful spots this end of the Alps. A shimmering blue lake with towering mountains surrounding, the historic town of Annecy draws visitors from all over the world. The canals run through the town from the lake, giving a Venice feel to what is otherwise a very French town.

Annecy has a local produce market each week, and we will be taking a trip to this evening. Raphael will guide you through the market, showing you what to look for and what's best in the myriad of foods and drinks available. He will also be picking up things to cook up in the chalet Friday evening.

There are many delightful restaurants and cafes for you to pick between for lunch. After that you are free to explore the many delights that annecy has to offer. Wander the Canals & explore the many local shops, take a walk on the lake shore or maybe hire a pedalo to get the best views or the surrounding vista.

Late afternoon we head back to Les Gets, where Raphael will turn the food bought at the market into a wonderful feast in front of your eyes. If you want to watch, learn or be involved we'd be glad to show you. If though you'd like to wander around Les Gets, or maybe just relax on the sunny balcony with a glass of wine, the choice is yours.

Saturday - Thonon and Lake Geneva

On Saturday, after a leisurely breakfast, we'll be heading down to Thonon on Lake Geneva. This ancient town was once the Capital of the Chablais Provence, and has much to offer through it's port, castle ruins, vine yards and restaurants.

Fois Gras, a speciality of the Thonon area of Lake Geneva

Our exploration starts with a guided tour of a Foie Gras factory. The it's lunch time, and the restaurants in Thonon offer fresh fish from the active fishing port as well as local wines from the sunny slopes of the lake. After some time to wander the streets of Thonon we'll be heading off for a tasting of local wines at a local wine cellar, before heading back to Les Gets for your evening meal in the chalet.

Again your are more than welcome to learn and get involved with the meal preparation should you wish, or just sit down, relax and wait for your meal to be served. This is not a formal cooking course, not at all. But if you'd like to talk to Raphael and learn as he prepares your meals he'd be delighted to show you what he'd doing and teach you his skills.

Sunday - Your day in Les Gets

As all good days should, Sunday begins with a leisurely breakfast at whatever time you would like it. The day is for you to explore Les Gets, this wonderful mountain village. There's only one set plan for the day - early afternoon we will meet you on the mountain side at an old farm for a picnic lunch, including local cured meats, cheeses and wine. Around that the day is your own to explore.

We have help point you in the right direction depending on what you would like to do. Maybe a gentle mountainside walk through the flora and fauna, or an afternoon on a guided horseback ride through the forest paths. You can just explore the village itself, the many cafes and bars, or just enjoy a good book on a sun soaked terrace with a good cup of coffee. Whatever your tastes, please just come and talk to us and we'll help guide you to what might work for your exploration of Les Gets.

Departure - Sunday Evening or Monday Morning

After that, I'm afraid, it's time to head home. For those flying out on Sunday evening we'll meet you at the chalet before taking you down to Geneva airport.

If a Monday morning flight works better for you can stay in the chalet Sunday evening. There's no included evening meal on Sunday, giving you the opportunity to try one of the many restaurants in Les Gets on Sunday night. Breakfast would be included on Monday morning, after which we'd give you a lift down to Geneva airport.
